2021 …A NEW YEAR… a new learning and skill set. My intention this year is to explore the greyscale beauty of both ink painting and carborundum collagraph printmaking. To begin, I create an ink painting on rice paper. I follow the idea of the traditional Asian landscape theme but with a nod to the British Columbia scenery with which I am familiar. After securing the ink painting to a matt board backing, I use a variety of gels and varnishes to create different textures on the plate that will result in different values of black, white and grey when inked, wiped and run through a printing press. This process can result in a varied edition. Each print will be different because no two inking and wiping processes are identical so no two resulting prints will be identical. The values will vary in each. The physical elements in each print will remain because the same plate is use each time, of course.
