2024 has been another experiencing year. Beginning with a simple lino cut and then expanding to reduction, multi-coloured plates and prints has been a wonderful challenge and good fun. My brain has to work in a more precise and analytical way as I divide the image up into values and shapes. I began working from light to dark… and now I”m contemplating how to reverse that process and work from dark to light. It may work….
I decided at the beginning of this new (for me) direction to concentrate on a year long series of prints with the focus being the amazing beaches and caves at a particular spot on one of our fabulous gulf islands. Using photographs I have taken with my phone and sketches I’ve made on-site, I aim to create plates that are more abstract than mimetic but still speak to the stories of ages and erosion where the sea and the land meet.
